On 31st of March (2022) the 1st Café Scientifique at FTA for PhD students was organized by Associate professor Hynek Roubík (Group leader of Biogas Research Team).
The "Café Scientifique" is a meeting organized to get to know all our PhD students.
This 1st Café Scientifique at FTA for PhD students was organized in order to provide PhD students a space to shed a bit more light on what they are doing, who they are and how they could also be helpful to their fellow PhD students.
Furthermore, it allowed them to get familiar with wide range of research activities happening at our faculty done by their fellow PhD students.
“I wanted to create a space for our PhD students as well as affiliated PhD students from other faculties to come together, meet themselves and discuss in a comfortable environment. It is important to meet outside the lab and just talk and discuss. It enhances new ideas and creates a space to talk to each other”, says organizer Assoc. Prof. Hynek Roubík.
The program was as follows: Pitch talks, which were done as 3-slides presentation, which had dedicated 3 minutes and everyone tackled the following: who are you, what research you do, what unique expertise you have and could provide to others. Then there was a “Research speed dating”, which was providing an opportunity to meet and discuss with wide range of colleagues and get to know them in timely matter. Finally, there was an Open discussion and informal networking.
There were more than 30 participants. And what are some of the participants saying?
“The Café Scientifique was a pleasant experience. It was a good way to meet other researchers and get to know what they do. It definitely broke some barriers and made room for possible collaborations. I definitely look forward to the next edition! – Olajumoke Alagbe, PhD student at FTA.
'I found it to be a very creative way to gather and get to know each other better,' says Giri Prasad Kandel, PhD student at FTA.
“I am very happy to be present at 1st Café Scientifique where I could meet colleagues from other departments and exchange information about interesting things. This was for me an inspiration for friendship and a place to promote myself,” says Lydia Mawar, PhD student at FTA.
This was of course not the last event and the last Café Scientifique at FTA. Assoc. Prof. Hynek Roubík is planning to continue regularly with these events. Let us see his final comments:
“Yes, definitely I want to keep organizing Café Scientifique. I believe that in the future it will not only be a faculty event, but it will become a common platform for all PhD students from CZU and beyond”, concluded Assoc. Prof. Hynek Roubík.
