University-Community Cooperation: Insights from the UNICOM meeting in Lund, Sweden

Universities–Communities: strengthening cooperation between universities and communities for sustainable development.

From the 6th to the 9th of November, 2023, the Lund University in Sweden hosted the UNICOM project meeting. During the meeting, the Biogas Research Team played a role in sharing the essential experiences in University-Community practices.

Here is a recap of the four-day meeting.

Day 1: Setting the stage

The journey started with a welcome by Anamaria Dutceac Segesten and Niklas Berns, setting the stage for the rest of the week. Patrik Rydén, from the LU Cooperation Office, showed the intricate landscape of cooperation. A delightful guided tour through Lund's historical center provided a glimpse into the city's rich heritage.

Day 2: Exploring Academic Frontiers and team building

On the second day, we started with the exploration of the HumTank with Lovisa Brännstedt. Later, Michael Bossetta, an expert in Media and Communication Studies, revealed the art of podcasting by sharing insight into his podcast. Running since 2016, the podcast focuses on Social Media and Politics (read all about his podcast here).  The day concluded with a guided tour and lecture at the Vattenhallen Science Center, a journey into the wonders of science combined with the collaborative spirit of the UNICOM partners and the competitive spirit we all have by nature, made this a visit to remember! The attendees were divided into groups of six, where each team needed to solve brain teasers and puzzles based on the exhibitions at the Science Center. Fun fact - the team with our very own BRT group leader Associate Professor Hynek Roubik, won the first prize!

Day 3: Communication, and Coordination

As the week progressed, the meeting focused on communication with Ulrika Oredsson, the Press Officer at Lund University. A guided tour and lecture at the Skissernas Museum showed a vast tapestry of art and culture. The day concluded with a coordination meeting led by Diana Spulber from Genoa University, ensuring the consortium was on the same note regarding collaboration and synergy.

Day 4: And so, it ends

In the final stretch, the LU Innovation was presented by Sophie Hydén Picasso. The day ended with a final discussion led by Anamaria Dutceac Segesten, Niklas Bernsand, and Diana Spulber, reflecting on the collective insights gained during this enriching study visit at LU, Sweden.

Stay tuned for more insights and updates as we continue to unlock the potential of university-community cooperation, guided by the spirit of the UNICOM project.
