A New Chapter: BRT Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hynek Roubík Inaugurated as FTZ Dean
On April 25th, 2025, BRT director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hynek Roubík, was officially inaugurated as the new Dean of the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences (FTZ) at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU).
The ceremony combined academic tradition with FTZ’s distinct tropical identity. Guests, including university leadership, international representatives, and students were all present to support. The symbolic coronation included a dean’s oath and the facultyr’s unique regalia - a coconut crown, golden antelope femur sceptre, and golden pineapple orb. In his inaugural address, Hynek outlined a vision centered on international collaboration, sustainability, and student engagement under the motto: “Leading Excellence in Tropical AgriSciences”. His message reflected many of the values that guide BRT’s work, and we’re excited to see these priorities shape FTZ’s future under his leadership!
One meaningful highlight of the evening was the planting of an apple tree, the third Dean’s tree. This tree is to commemorate the service of the deans to the faculty and symbolizes knowledge, growth, and hospitality. As Hynek explained, the tree is meant to be a welcoming sign for all, offering fruit at the start of each academic year. The day concluded with a warm, informal gathering celebrating FTZ’s community spirit, blending Czech traditions with international flair. This included an engaging pub quiz game - “How well do you know FTZ deans?” and a delicious outdoor campfire sausage roasting.
Congratulations Hynek, on this momentous achievement!
