Building Bridges for a Greener Future: BIOECO-UP Project Meeting in Prague

On March 26–27, 2025, partners of the BIOECO-UP project gathered in the heart of Prague, at the historic Novotného lávka, for a two-day transnational meeting filled with collaboration, innovation, and forward-thinking dialogue on the future of the bioeconomy in Central and Eastern Europe.

Exploring Intersectoral Synergies
The first day focused on testing and upscaling intersectoral cooperation. Dominika and Silvia (BEC) shared insights on transnational cooperation procedures, followed by a compelling presentation from Julia Dalmadi, CEO of TransFoodMission Kft, who introduced the company’s brand “Secontaste”—a shining example of bio-based innovation from Hungary. Rita then introduced the Stakeholder Forum as a key vehicle for scaling up bioeconomy partnerships.

The afternoon was devoted to the heart of BIOECO-UP’s Living Lab activities. Experts from ICE, ISD, and BF UL—Saša, Darja, and Matej—delivered a comprehensive overview of national analyses, six bio-based products, and the project’s transnational methodology. They also showcased the pilot testing of one bio-based product, underscoring the importance of user-driven innovation. The day concluded with a networking dinner at the Adria restaurant, where project partners continued discussions in a more relaxed and scenic atmosphere.

Shaping Strategy and Sharing Knowledge
Day two began with a dive into strategy development. Piotr and Stelios (IUNG) presented the project's action plan for implementing bioeconomy measures across partner regions. The morning continued with engaging presentations on citizen engagement (UNIBO) and future-oriented activities, such as shaping the bioeconomy’s direction and planning a transnational product fair (BZN).

A key highlight came from Anett Szabó, who outlined how the BIOECO-UP project's outcomes can be capitalized within the broader BIOEAST initiative - linking regional efforts with EU-wide policy goals. More info on this HERE and HERE.

This meeting closed with essential updates on project management, communication, and financial matters, led by Rita and Anett (HUMA). And the event as a whole wrapped up with a lunch followed by a guided tour of Prague’s historic center—a fantastic finale in one of Europe’s most beautiful capitals.

Looking Ahead
The Prague meeting marked another milestone for the BIOECO-UP consortium. The connections strengthened here will no doubt help sow the seeds for a more sustainable and resilient future.

“As the project enters its next phase, partners are more aligned in their mission: to unlock the potential of the bioeconomy through innovation, cross-sectoral collaboration, and citizen engagement,” says Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hynek Rouíbk.

Stay tuned as BIOECO-UP continues to bring bio-based innovation to life across Europe!
