Meet our new intern - Esther Folepe Azemo
To broaden and develop our teams’ collaborative skills while offering visiting students the chance to expand their scientific networks and gain cultural experiences, BRT encourages students to join our team for internship opportunities. These internships aim to facilitate idea exchange, foster professional growth, and create opportunities for collaboration. Meet the new intern joining our team from Cameroon, Esther Folepe Azemo!
Hello everyone! My name is Folepe Azemo Esther, and I am excited to be a part of BioResources and Technology Division (BRT) at the
Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU) for a two-month Erasmus mobility internship. I come from Cameroon, where I am currently pursuing a PhD in Machinery and Renewable Energies at the
University of Dschang. My research focuses on the potential of white palm larvae (
Rhynchophorus ferrugineus) as a resource for biodiesel production, a topic that aligns closely with my passion for renewable energy and sustainable development.
During my academic journey, I have gained extensive experience in the conversion of biomass and waste into renewable energy, including biogas, biodiesel, and biochar. My research has taken me to various international platforms, including a research fellowship at the
Federal University of Pará in Brazil, where I optimized biodiesel production from palm weevil larvae using response surface methodology. Additionally, I have presented my work at conferences such as the African Youth Biodiversity Summit in Morocco and COP 16 on biodiversity in Colombia, where I won first prize in a project presentation session.
Beyond my academic and professional pursuits, I am deeply committed to environmental protection and biodiversity conservation. I have participated in training programs run by the
African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) and
Expertise France, focusing on project development and writing. These experiences have strengthened my ability to work under pressure, collaborate in teams, and engage with stakeholders in rural and international settings.
At BRT, I am thrilled to join the team and contribute while expanding my expertise in biogas, solid biodiesel production, and sustainable technologies. I am especially eager to learn from the diverse team members and gain valuable insights into the innovative approaches being developed here. This experience will not only benefit my future career but also empower me to apply these advancements in my work back in my home country.
Outside of work, I enjoy staying active through volleyball, cooking, and going to the gym. I also love traveling to meet new people and explore different cultures. My time in the Czech Republic is not only an opportunity for professional growth but also a chance to immerse myself in a new environment and build lasting international connections.
I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to contributing to the BRT team while learning from the incredible expertise around me!
