To broaden and develop our teams’ collaborative skills while offering visiting students the chance to expand their scientific networks and gain cultural experiences, BRT encourages students to join our team for internship opportunities. These internships aim to facilitate idea exchange, foster professional growth, and create opportunities for collaboration. Meet the new intern joining our team from Colombia, Paula Andrea Castro Martinez!
Hello everyone! Ja Jsem Paula, and I moved my entire life to the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU) from Colombia just a few months ago.
After graduating as a Veterinary Doctor from U.D.C.A., in Bogotá, Colombia, I further worked as an independent assessor on differential scales of research projects, and I realized that I had fallen in love with the field of research. This fascination began with earlier positions in my career as a research assistant, associated researcher and grew to the point of creating and managing my own research project! For those who are wondering, yes, this includes going through the whole publishing process as a scientific article writer and consultant. It was this love for what I do as a career, that led me to understanding the importance of applied research and how it provides us with efficient and directly applicable solutions. The passion I discovered while gaining experience, gave me the energy to continue this professional path.
My journey led me to where I am right now, as an MSc student in the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences (FTZ) at CZU. I am in the Wildlife and Livestock Production, Management and Conservation program with my Master Thesis project under the Animal Physiology Behavior Research Team. My topic is especially interesting to me because as a horse person I have worked with many different types of horses, but this will be my first opportunity to support a project focused on conservation and reintroduction with the Przhevalsky horses.
Apart from my student life, I am the newest intern in the BioResources and Technology Division (BRT) as part of the Communications team! I will have the opportunity to develop a variety of new skills in communications relating to the research work of the team and their projects. All of this, of course, while I am enjoying the benefits of my new life in the Czech Republic! My main goal is to become a successful professional at an international level. Having the courage to seek out and take advantage of the opportunities I've been offered during my time at CZU is the way I will begin to achieve this goal. Being part of the BRT will develop stronger international relationships and open new doors for me as a professional, while becoming an influential player in the areas I love to work in.
I hope to contribute my talents and efforts to this team and become a worthy member. Dekuji.
