COMUNIDAD Project Successfully Completed and Recognised Among Horizon Europe Success Stories
The COMUNIDAD project has reached an important milestone, successfully completing its final review and closing its activities with strong recognition at European level. As a Horizon Europe project dedicated to strengthening the use of Copernicus and European satellite-based services in Latin America, COMUNIDAD brought together partners from Europe, Chile, and Colombia to support the development of digital tools, capacity-building activities, and applied solutions for agriculture, forestry, and rural development.
Throughout its implementation, COMUNIDAD focused on making Earth Observation data more accessible, practical, and useful for end users in Chile and Colombia. By combining Copernicus data, geospatial tools, training activities, stakeholder engagement, and platform development, the project contributed to improving how satellite-based information can support decision-making in sectors that are directly affected by various challenges.
The successful final review marks the official completion of the project and confirms the relevance of its results and collaborative approach. BRT Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hynek Roubík, Communicatoins Manager Dr. Stacy Hammond, and Postdoctoral Researcher Dr. Adam Hruška represented the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU) during the final review, presenting CZU’s role within the consortium as lead of WP5 and 6.
Beyond the final review, COMUNIDAD also received broader recognition as one of the standout Horizon Europe projects of its time. The project was featured by CORDIS, the European Commission’s main platform for EU-funded research results, highlighting its contribution to expanding the practical use of Copernicus services and supporting regional capacity in Chile and Colombia.
Participation in COMUNIDAD represented an opportunity to contribute to an international collaboration focused on knowledge exchange, applied innovation, and the use of European space-based technologies for sustainable development. The project’s completion is not only a closing point, but also a foundation for future cooperation, continued platform use, and new initiatives building on the results achieved!
