In September 2023, our Group leader Assoc. Prof. Hynek Roubík was invited by the Innovation Agency of Lithuania to be a keynote speaker during their workshop.

In September 2023, Lithuanian ministry and their Innovation Agency organised workshop on a topic of both environmental and industrial significance—phosphogypsum.

Invited by the Lithuanian Ministry, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hynek Roubík brought his extensive expertise to the forefront to discuss the multifaceted dimensions of phosphogypsum, its challenges, and its innovative applications. Here's an overview of the key takeaways from this insightful event.

The workshop wasn't confined to theoretical discussions alone. It ventured into the practical aspects of phosphogypsum, addressing its management, disposal, and associated regulatory considerations. Attendees were especially captivated by the innovative applications of phosphogypsum in industries like construction, agriculture, and materials science, underscoring its untapped potential.

The workshop was aim mainly on sustainability in managing phosphogypsum waste, promoting recycling, upcycling, and environmentally conscious approaches. Real-world case studies underscored the practical viability of these solutions, bridging the gap between theory and application.

What was mainly highlighted was collaboration between academia, industry, and regulatory bodies, which was key theme. As this workshop was attended by all of those actors involved, it was an ideal place for setting up a new collaboration.

The workshop also offered a glimpse into the regulatory landscape, provided insights into environmental monitoring and remediation techniques, and introduced attendees to key players in the phosphogypsum domain.

It culminated in a forward-looking perspective on the future trends and research directions, underlining the potential for phosphogypsum to play a pivotal role in greener, more sustainable practices on both industrial and environmental fronts.

In addition, results from the currently running project: “Phosphogypsum Processing to Critical Raw Materials (PG2CRM)” were presented.
