Introducing BRT’s new PhD student - Chhorth Chhiengputheavy
Recently, the BRT welcomed new PhD student Chhorth Chhiengputheavy. Read her firsthand account detailing her background and aspirations below!
Hello, My name is Chhorth Chhiengputheavy, but everyone calls me Theavy. I am from Cambodia. I graduated my Master's degree in Natural Resources and Environment and recently began my PhD journey in Sustainable Rural Development at Czech University of Life Science Prague (CZU), Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences (FTZ).
I have the opportunity to continue my studies at FTZ, a faculty that focuses on creating practical environmental solutions for tropical countries and other parts of the world. This also introduced me to learn about BioResources & Technology Division (BRT). Being part of BRT allows me to learn from an inspiring team, amazing scientists, gain hands on experience in applied research, and contribute to projects that make a real difference in communities. BRT has been a strong foundation of knowledge, helping me become the best version of myself while working toward sustainable development solutions for my home country.
My interest in environmental science sparked my curiosity about renewable energy and waste management. During my study in Czech Republic, I realized how much potential there is to make sustainable clean energy more efficient. I also became deeply interested in the Social Life Cycle Assessment of biogas production in Cambodia, as I believe that renewable energy should not only protect the environment but also bring meaningful social benefits to improve people's well being.
Apart from studies and work, I like to take life slowly, romanticize small moments, snapping random photos, and not letting the rush of this world push me around. As a future scientist and a daughter studying far from home, I aspire to pursue my dream career as a project manager, where I can become a true "problem solver". I hope to find as many ways as possible to help local communities in Cambodia overcome environmental challenges to align with Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries.
I strongly believe that real progress happens through collaboration and innovation. I am truly grateful to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hynek Roubík, the Director of BRT and Dean of FTZ, for his warm welcome, guidance and the opportunity to be part of such an incredible BRT team during my PhD journey at CZU!
