Successfully completed joint Ukrainian-Czech project "Bioenergy innovations in waste recycling and rational use of natural resources" (2021-2022)
BRT successfully completed another project in cooperation with Sumy State University (Ukraine). This project in particular focused on bioenergy innovations in waste recycling and rational use of natural resources.
Project summary:
The process of disposal of environmentally safe waste in sustainable environmental management, including phosphogypsum and organic waste of various genesis for energy purposes, was the focus of the research. The topic of the research was the development of scientific and methodological approaches and practical recommendations for the involvement of organic and chemical waste as a resource in bioenergy technological solutions.
The purpose of the research was to develop an innovative concept for the chain of bioprocesses for the production of useful bio-based products, starting with the pre-treatment of organic and chemical waste, storage and anaerobic conversion of them to produce biomethane and organic-mineral fertilizer with a comparative assessment using the life cycle methodology.
Completed project activities:
- modeling of phosphogypsum management clusters and identification of alternative solutions for its use and development of a scientific methodology to the ecological and biochemical impact of waste phosphogypsum on the biotic component of the environment;
- the forecast of the potential of organic waste as a substrate for anaerobic digestion in Ukraine, the study of the biochemical and physicochemical principles of intensification of anaerobic digestion with phosphogypsum in bioenergy technologies with the production of a complex biological product based on digestate (organic fertilizer) with phosphogypsum and biogas production with variation of the dose of phosphogypsum, which affects the methane content;
- an evaluation of the potential of agricultural waste for the production of green energy was carried out in the combined utilization with phosphogypsum using SWOT analysis, and the implementation of the life cycle methodology to assess the environmental safety of bioenergy technologies in the system of environmental management and waste recycling;
- development of an experimental complex for the utilization of phosphogypsum together with organic waste in bioenergy technologies, in particular, electrofermentation and ultrasonic pretreatment of waste;
- conducting an experimental study of the processes of intensification of anaerobic digestion and electrofermentation of organic waste together with phosphogypsum in bioenergy technologies with the production of value-added bioproducts, such as biomethane and organic-mineral fertilizer, as well as a comprehensive analysis of phosphogypsum utilization using the life cycle analysis methodology.
