Reducing Food Waste in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Food waste is one of the biggest waste streams in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the amount of food waste generated continues to grow over the last few years. At the same time, more than 20% of the population is estimated to be living at or below the absolute poverty line.

The consultancy supports the initial efforts aiming to reduce food waste in Bosnia and Herzegovina by analysing the state of play vis-a-vis the set of standards and requirements set by the European Union, designing a methodology to measure food waste in a selected waste-source category and subsequently proposing feasible actions towards systemic improvements in this domain. The project wants to identify the way forward in tackling the reduction of food waste and lead to the better management of different types of organic waste.
